Prairie Valley Earns TEA's Top Distinction
Prairie Valley ISD Awarded Top Distinction
Each school year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) compares and rates school districts based on factors such as STAAR test scores, graduation and dropout rates, types of classes and certifications offered, and college readiness. Based on those comparisons and ratings, districts and campuses are awarded distinctions. This year, the TEA has awarded its top district-wide distinction to Prairie Valley ISD in Post-Secondary Readiness. Prairie Valley ISD is one of only 24 districts out of the 1274 school districts in the state of Texas to receive this honor for the 2015-2016 school year. This means that PVISD is in top 2% of all districts, no matter the size, in the state of Texas based on their Post-Secondary Readiness standards. The Prairie Valley elementary, middle, and high school campuses all played an important role in the reception of this distinction.
To be awarded the Post-Secondary Readiness Distinction, a district must be ranked among the highest in multiple areas. Those areas are graduation rates, dropout rates, college dual credit participation, ACT and SAT test participation, Career and Technical Education certifications offered, advanced courses offered, and STAAR and EOC test averages across the district. This distinction is comparable to past awards given to school districts such as Exemplary and Blue Ribbon Schools.
In addition to the district-wide distinction awarded in Post-Secondary Readiness, the PVISD campuses received multiple individual distinctions as well. Campus distinctions are awarded to those that are in the top 25% of schools in the state of Texas. To receive any campus distinction is an honor in itself. The Prairie Valley Elementary campus received distinctions in 3 of the 5 available, which included the Reading/English Language Arts Achievement, Student Progress, and Post-Secondary Readiness. The middle and high school campus received 4 of the 7 available, which included the Reading/English Language Arts Achievement, Student Progress, Closing the Performance Gap, and Post-Secondary Readiness. Other schools in the county or area receiving campus distinctions were Nocona High School with 1, Nocona Middle School with 1, Forestburg High School with 1, Montague with 2, Bowie High School with 3, Saint Jo Elementary with 5 and Saint Jo Middle and High School with 2. Prairie Valley is led by Tim West, superintendent and Lisa Sadler, principal. Mrs. Sadler attributed this honor to the students and teachers of Prairie Valley. “I love my job at Prairie Valley and it is because we have the best teachers and students. It takes hard work and dedication from everyone from PreK to the senior class. We are a family, a team, from top to bottom.”
Mr. West added, “We are very proud of our staff and students and we would not be able to provide the quality education if it weren’t for their efforts. It takes students, parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, counselor, office and maintenance staff and the support of our school board to earn this distinction and I am very proud.”
